Around 50,000 vehicles a day – 1,128 metres long – the highest bridge in Germany: we are talking about the Kocher viaduct close to Heilbronn. As part of its rehabilitation, demolition work was done in the interior of the box girder completely emission-free.
Powerful machines with compact dimensions that can also be operated in tight spaces and, above all, with no exhaust emissions were needed for the demolition work.
Interior demolition: working emission-free with the mini-excavator
For this demolition work, the Leonhard Weiss Group, the executing construction company, used the 1-ton excavator 803 dual power from Wacker Neuson, which was purchased specifically for this application. The mini-excavator from the zero emission portfolio of Wacker Neuson was able to deploy all of its advantages for emission-free work in tight spaces on this construction site.
803 dual power makes emission-free demolition possible
The “dual power” option makes it possible, in addition to thestandard diesel engine, to connect the external electro-hydraulic power unit HPU8 to the excavator. The power unit allows the excavator to be operated electrically and completely emission-free. Perfect for use indoors. All according to the motto: full power and zero emission. The simple handling of dual power is particularly important for end users. If the excavator is needed, the operator drives it in the traditional fashion to the site of application while transporting the external power unit HPU8 attached to the dozer blade of the excavator. Once arrived at the site of application, the operator connects the power unit to the undercarriage of the excavator and can then continue to work completely free of emissions. The excavator is supplied with hydraulic power via the travel gear so that the swing radius remains preserved unrestricted over 360 degrees.
